Developing commissioning skills amongst clinicians

At CQDS we recognise that clinical involvement can assist in strengthening commissioning across a local health economy.  However, we also recognise that clinicians often need to gain an understanding of the core elements of commissioning and the local commissioning priorities in order to be able to add significant value.

With this in mind CQDS is offering a practical and hands-on development programme focused on assisting clinicians, in particular practice based commissioners, to gain an understanding of the core elements of commissioning and local commissioning priorities.

Comprising of two study days and a four—six week assignment, delegates examine the core elements of commissioning, including world class commissioning competencies; discuss local commissioning priorities; investigate how the elements of commissioning are undertaken locally; examine how clinicians can add value; and negotiate a work plan with local commissioners.  The programme concludes with a half day evaluation of progress against the agreed plan of work.
